Mountainous regions in general, and the Pyrenees in particular with its rocky terrain, do not have a history of using this method of transport. However, with the arrival of mass tourism in the Pyrenees dog sledding is being developed as an option in some tours and takes place at the base of some high valleys.
The musher, or sled guide, controls a team of Scandinavian dogs that include breed such as the Alaskan Malemute, the Samoyedo or the Siberian Husky. These animals are exceptionally well adapted to winter environments and have an inborn instinct to pull a sled.
The sport of Mushing allows the participant to enjoy an outing through incredible natural beauty spots in the company of these animals that are part of the mountain winter landscape.
The cross country ski routes, which consist of large flat areas, are idea locations for this activity. The sled is pulled by dogs that have been specially trained by the “Musher” who drives and controls them to bring you this pleasant and enjoyable activity.
The Himàlaia guides will reserve a place for you on this excursion. Just let us know when you want to go on the excursion, either while making your online booking or on arrival at the hotel, and our guides can then tell you about all of the options and routes.
