This is a very pleasant hike even though it appears to be lengthy. Due to the variety of things to see the trip is made shorter. The marvellous villages that you will walk through are worth dedicating some extra time yo visit because with or without monuments there isn´t a single village in the Val d´Aran that doesn´t surprise the senses of the visitor.
Satrting point is the Plaça Major de Gessa. Go down along the street of the church until reaching the Barranc de Corilha (ravine). Cross the bridge following the direction of the GR-211 to Arties, the largest urban nucleus of Naut Aran (territorial division) located at the confluence of the rivers Garonne and Valarties, set in a beautiful valley dominated by the majestic peak of Montardo (2833m) not the highest but the most representative of the Val d'Aran.
In Arties is recommended a visit to the Romanesque church of Santa Maria, the Urtau Square, the monument and chapel dedicated to Don Gaspar de Portola, the Sant Joan church, where interesting exhibitions are held and the bear enclosure adjacent to the squash courts.
Our guides will explain you how to hike this route easy to enjoy with the family the nature and the nice hiking trails in the valley of Aran. This trail is included in our Weekly Hiking Program.
